How to Get Help

It can sometimes be scary asking for help when you need it. Fear of judgment, disappointment, or embarrassment is a common feeling when faced with this daunting task. Although it can be challenging to open up to adults about your problems, it’s often the best thing to do for your mental health. Here are some tips to help you to get the help that you need.

It’s ok to need help - Never feel ashamed for needing help. We are all human, and no one can do everything on their own. You are not alone.

Find a trusted adult - You can always ask your parents for help. However, if you don’t feel comfortable doing this, many other adults in your life can help you. A school counselor, teacher, or even doctor are all people who are there for you.

Pick a good time to bring it up - Make sure to ask at a good time when the person you are asking is not distracted or in a bad mood.

Say you need help - Make sure to tell your trusted adult that you need help. You can also tell them how you are feeling and why you need help. However, if you don’t feel comfortable doing this, you can keep it brief. If you are nervous, you can make a script of what you want to say.

Do not wait - The longer you wait to get help, the worse you will probably feel. Do not be afraid to get the help you need so you can start feeling better!
